A new app to stay safe outdoors

June 20th, 2012 at 3:53 pm by under Weather

Earlier this afternoon, I took part in a conference call with the U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, the National Weather Service and OSHA officials.  It was all about how we, as broadcast meteorologists, can better inform you, our viewers, about heat safety – especially if you spend most of your day working outside.

I’ll provide a more detailed post later tonight, but wanted to share some important links with you that I’ll be talking about on the news tonight.

The first link provides a general overview of heat-related illnesses and symptoms to watch out for:

This second link explains more about a new mobile app for employers and employees who work outside.  It’s a handy resource that calculates the heat index in your location, provides a health risk level and precautions to take given the heat conditions.
