Adding Insult to Injury

Yesterday in my blog post, I questioned why the Weather Channel is naming winter storms.   (I thought it was sensationalizing weather and borderline silly.)  Well, their first named winter storm of the season was named Athena, named after the Greek god of wisdom.  They should have named it after Khione, the goddess of snow!   Check out these snow totals from the NWS:

The list is longer yet, but I am sure you get the point. Parts of the East Coast
that were hammered by Hurricane Sandy, just got slammed by a strong Nor'easter
that had enough snow to lay down a heavy blanket of the white stuff. So, are we
going to see anything like this any time soon? Not in the next 10 to 14 days, but
the weather pattern is very amplified right now with big swings in
the temperatures and strong storm systems ripping through the jet stream.

The Live Doppler 15 Fury Storm Team is currently working on the winter forecast for
the Fort Wayne area. We hope to have it completed in the next few weeks, but there
is a lot to look at from El Nino, the weather patterns in the Arctic and the Northern
Atlantic. I won't get specific, but don't be surprised if your heating bill is
higher than average this winter. More to come so stay tuned.
