Don’t Give Up Hope For A White Christmas

From Weather Underground GFS December 22nd, 2012

I wanted to show you what the longer range models are grabbing hold of as we approach the Christmas holiday. A couple of things to point out here on this model map.

1. There is abundant moisture showing up

2.It is cold enough to snow. The thickness value here is about 530, anything under the 540 line indicates snow.

So two key components are showing up. While it is exciting it’s also a long ways out and it’s difficult to get too worked up about a weather pattern which may be days off the coast and hasn’t made land fall in North America yet. But it is a little more of a positive feature if you are looking forward to¬† a “white Christmas”. Of course we will continue to watch this and see how it changes over the next couple of weeks.
