Australia’s summer is so hot….January 8th, 2013 at 4:09 pm by Lee Ann Okuly under Weather
No this isn’t the beginning to a bad joke. The Bureau of Meteorology in Australia has actually had to add 2 new colors to the temperature maps to reflect the extreme heat wave. Typically the Bureau of Meteorology uses orange and red tones as the hottest temperatures, but is now adding pink and purple on top of that. Here is a look at the map.
The new colors will represent temperatures of over 50° Celsius. That is a whopping 122° Fahrenheit!!! The record in that area is 50.7° C set back in 1960.
Temperatures recently in the area have been running at about 39°C, which is around 102°F.
