Assist the Severe Storms Labratory with precipitation confirmationsJanuary 15th, 2013 at 6:15 pm by Lee Ann Okuly under Weather
The National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) is conducting a research project that anyone can participate in! It’s called the PING Project. PING stands for “Precipitation Identification Near the Ground”. All NEXRAD radars across the country will be upgraded to the new Dual-Polarization radars. Our radar site is set to be upgraded in February. With all the new data streaming in, researchers want your help in confirming the data.
It’s rather simple to participate. Whenever you see any type of precipitation falling, report the type of precip to PING. That’s it! You can report online at the PING Project website, or they now have an app available for your smartphone.
One good thing about participation, it’s strictly voluntary and confidential.
For more information on this project head to the PING Project website.
