New record for number of records

It sounds a bit confusing, but this is a real statistic.  The number of weather records broken in 2012 was 3,527.  This well exceeds the old record of 3,251 records that were broken in 2011.

If you head to the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) website, you’ll find a very interesting interactive map.  There you can see all of the different records, the drought, and the wildfire locations through the year.  You can even click on Indiana and see all the records we set in 2012 then scroll down to find the data.

It’s no wonder this was a record breaking year.  The hottest March ever for the US was recorded in 2012 as well as the hottest month EVER in July.  This was also the warmest year ever for the US.

The NCDC (National Climactic Data Center) has also written up a report on last years weather.  A link to the 2012 review can be found HERE.  Here are some of the highlights of the year.
