As the massive storm approached the Great Lakes region much of the moisture was already gone. The other problem was that the mid layers of the atmosphere began warming before the heavier surface air did. The result was a thin coating of ice that made conditions treacherous across much of northeastern Indiana and northwestern Ohio. Most areas reported about a tenth of an ice of ice which made for some intense widow scrapping!
